Packraft Beginner Course
Packrafting Allgäu / Germany
The Iller rises as the confluence of the three source streams Stillach, Breitach and Trettach near Oberstdorf. In its upper reaches it offers easy white water in the difficulty levels I - II + in the midst of a beautiful mountain backdrop.
This week you can enjoy a wonderful landscape and an unforgettable group experience. The whole thing is crowned with the learning to maneuver you and your packraft safely through the rapids.
The Iller is ideal for those who are new to packraft. It meanders through the Allgäu Alps, in the repeatedly quiet sections you can relax from the lively but technically not very demanding rapids or you can take a break on the beautiful gravel banks.
Arrival and departure by train or bus is no problem thanks to the good connection. All entry and exit points can be reached via the idyllic Iller hiking or cycling path.

In our Packraft beginner courses, we paddle the Iller between Oberstdorf and Immenstadt. The on-site instructor always decides which sections of the river you will paddle. This decision is always made taking into account the water levels, weather and the needs of the participants.

Procedure / course content
On the first day of the course we meet at 10:00 am. After a sociable round, we first familiarize ourselves with the equipment and how to use it in calm waters. We will practice getting out underwater and getting back into the packraft.
The course content of the week is the basics of packrafting, the right paddling techniques, such as eddy in and out and ferry techniques. What has been learned is practiced and increased. According to the guideline from easy to difficult, from known to unknown.
A very important part of our teaching is instruction in risk management. Therefore, each of our five-day courses includes a safety course. It is about hazard identification, assessment and avoidance. Swimming techniques in white water, the correct handling of a throwbag, the personal responsibility of every paddler and the right equipment. All teaching content in these training units is based on the current international standards and our many years of whitewater experience.
In addition to practice on the river, our courses always include small theory units in which we deal with hydrology, the science of water, its types, properties and forms of appearance.
We deliberately want to leave the choice of accommodation to our participants, as it is very important to us not to deny the participants their self-determination.
In our courses, accompanied hiking is not in the foreground.
We focus on conveying our knowledge to you on and around the flow in order to prepare you as a responsible packrafter for your own adventures with a clear conscience.
